- Choose a usable clip. Search a word, or explore Discover. Pick a short caption window with speech you can hear clearly.
- Listen before reading. Play at normal speed once. Then read the surrounding captions and check the meaning. Captions may contain errors.
- Find the difficult detail. Slow playback and replay. Notice a vowel, consonant, tone, pause, or connection between words. Use available readings and phonetic notes as a guide.
- Shadow the whole phrase. Repeat with the speaker, then return to normal speed. Match timing and phrasing as well as individual sounds.
- Record and compare. Allow the microphone, record a take, and play it back. Compare by ear with the clip; choose one detail to try again.
- Try another speaker. Move to another result to hear which features are consistent and which depend on the speaker or context.
